Services & Capabilities

When Centaur Tool & Die was founded in 1973, most of the work involved in building tooling and dies was carried out using slide rules, drafting machines and good old-fashioned common sense. However, by taking advantage of new technology as soon as it became available, Centaur Tool & Die has been able to stay one step ahead of its competition and capture a significant share of the tool and die market in this geographical area.
State-of-the-art computers are used for estimating and designing complex dies. CNC mills and wire EDM machines are used to cut hardened steel to within two millionths of an inch accuracy...something that is impossible to accomplish by hand. Other acquisitions including a Mori Seiki NVD 5000, three Mitsubishi wire EDM machines and five Track DPM CNC mills are helping to keep Centaur Tool & Die at the forefront of technology.
However, Centaur Tool & Die also owns and lovingly maintains a wonderful 1919 vintage try-out press. This press exerts 300 tons of pressure on a completed die and ensures that all specifications are met before shipment of the die to the customer. Centaur Tool & Die also maintains 88 ton and 150 ton back-geared presses to properly test all tooling it manufactures.
Yet another key to the company's continued success and growth is the fact that it can design, test and provide samples for approval without having to rely on subcontractors. This leads to zero loss of time and ensures control and responsibility over the entire die design and construction process. This provides customers with a complete one-stop package from one of the best tool and die design departments in the United States.
